Review 2022

From August 5 to 7, 2022, we were finally able to celebrate our long-awaited StreetArt anniversary. After a two-year break due to the pandemic, around 60 international artists ensured a colorful Wilhelmshaven.

This year, 35 artists from all over the world took part in the competition in Marktstraße and once again transformed the asphalt into a gigantic canvas. From imaginative motifs to amazingly real depictions or political themes, everything was there. As usual, they painted for victory in the categories "Freestyle Artists", "Copyists" and "3D Artists". Two of these artists were even able to enjoy a special prize this year, which was awarded for the 10th participation in 10 years of the International StreetArt Festival Wilhelmshaven.

The large 3D perspective painting found its place on a 700-square-meter area on Valoisplatz, making reference to the Ukraine war. The artist Gregor Wosik, who is already well-known in Wilhelmshaven, painted for a total of five days together with his team, consisting of Elgart and Melina as well as Wilfried Berg on the big highlight of the festival. In addition, another oversized 3D painting was created on the Rambla by the Mexican artists Juandrés Vera and Abraham Burciaga. It dealt with the climate-friendly energy supply of the future and was named "Energy Hub Wilhelmshaven". The painting was sponsored by Wintershall Dea AG.

The varied festival weekend was rounded off by a colorful supporting program such as live body painting, a Streetfun Game Zone and an open Sunday. In Bahnhofstrasse, young creative people and up-and-coming artists were able to get active themselves in the painting competition of the Children & Youth StreetArt Festival, hands-on activities of the Creative Atelier or in the children's shop window painting campaign of Modehaus Leffers. In the NordseePassage, two exhibitions on the theme of "10 years of StreetArt Festival" provided a nice retrospective of the last StreetArt years. The spontaneously called bag spray action was so well received that the limited 300 bags were completely sold out on the third day.
