José Méndez (José de Jesús Méndez López) comes from the city of León in the state of Guanajuato in Mexico.
He has been drawing since he was 6 years old. His father taught him the basics, followed by books and videotapes. He never attended art school.
At first, he only used the graphite pencil technique before he started to develop his portrait skills and used different materials.
At the age of 17 José decided to devote himself fully to art. After a 3-year break, he gradually resumed this art with greater consistency. During this time he also decided to learn new techniques.
Since 2018, oil painting has been the basis of his work. In 2021, he learned a lot at the Madonnari festivals. In the four festivals, he received honorable mentions and also a second place. This was one of his greatest joys in his career, which until then was short.
José really likes to create his works with a high level of detail and strong color, but also to achieve very realistic results in a very short time. That's why he also likes working under pressure at the festivals.
